At CrossoverPeru, the safety and well-being of our clients are our paramount concern. This section outlines essential guidelines and policies designed to promote a secure, healthy, and responsible travel experience throughout your journey in Cusco and the Southern Peruvian Andes.
Health and Altitude Management
The Cusco region operates at high altitudes, which requires specific precautions. Our policy emphasizes readiness and proactive management.
Altitude Acclimatization: We strongly recommend that all clients arrive in Cusco at least 24 to 48 hours prior to commencing any strenuous tours (e.g., trekking) to allow for proper acclimatization. Clients are advised to maintain a slow pace and avoid physical exertion upon arrival.
Pre-existing Medical Conditions: Clients with pre-existing medical conditions, particularly those affecting the cardiovascular or respiratory systems, are required to consult with their physician before booking and travel. CrossoverPeru must be informed of any conditions that may require emergency attention or special accommodations.
Medical Disclosure: By booking with us, clients acknowledge the inherent risks associated with high-altitude travel and agree to disclose any relevant medical information that could impact their safety during the tour.
Travel Insurance: Comprehensive travel insurance that covers emergency medical treatment, evacuation (including high-altitude rescue), and repatriation is mandatory for all multi-day tours, particularly treks. Proof of insurance may be requested prior to departure.
On-Tour Safety and Compliance
Our guides are trained to manage emergencies and maintain high safety standards. Client cooperation is essential.
Guide Authority: All clients must strictly follow the safety instructions and decisions of the CrossoverPeru lead guide and staff. The guide’s decision regarding itinerary adjustments due to safety concerns (weather, trail conditions, or client health) is final and non-negotiable.
Personal Equipment: Clients are responsible for ensuring they have the appropriate gear, especially for altitude and weather variability (layers, waterproof jackets, adequate footwear). Our guides will perform a brief equipment check prior to departure for complex tours.
Emergency Procedures: Guides are equipped with basic first aid kits and satellite communication devices for remote treks. Clients will be briefed on specific emergency protocols, including evacuation routes and communication procedures, prior to commencing the tour.
Transportation Safety: We utilize licensed and regularly maintained vehicles and professional drivers who comply with local transportation regulations to ensure safe transit between destinations.
General Conduct and Personal Security
Maintaining personal vigilance is crucial for safe travel in urban and rural environments.
Valuables: Clients are advised to exercise caution with personal belongings and minimize the display of expensive items. CrossoverPeru is not responsible for the loss, theft, or damage of personal property. Utilize hotel safe deposit boxes where available.
Hydration and Food Safety: To prevent illness, clients are strongly advised to consume only bottled water and be discerning about street food and local eateries. Guides can provide recommendations for safe dining options.
Nighttime Travel: When traveling in urban centers at night, clients are encouraged to use licensed taxis recommended by their hotel or CrossoverPeru staff. Avoid walking alone in poorly lit or unfamiliar areas after dark.
Reporting Incidents
All clients have a responsibility to report safety concerns promptly.
Immediate Reporting: Any accident, injury, or suspicion of unsafe behavior or suspicious activity (including theft or harassment) must be reported immediately to the CrossoverPeru guide or office staff.
Documentation: We will assist clients in documenting incidents and interacting with local authorities, if necessary, to ensure proper procedure is followed.
