Overview and Highlights
This amazing trek runs next to the spectacular snow-capped “Apu” of Ausangate (6.372m/20900ft) and takes you over mountain passes, awesome mountain scenery, remote Andean villages, hot springs and turquoise lakes. An unforgettable hike for lovers of high mountain trekking who wish to live an intense experience in virgin and wild natural environments. This is also one of the very few treks in the world, which allows to spot wild vicuñas in its natural habitat.
It is a fantastic and lesser-known trek around the sacred snow-capped mountain (“Apu”) of Ausangate (6,384 masl / 20,945 fasl) that takes you to mountain passes, breathtaking mountain scenery, remote Andean villages, hot springs and turquoise lakes. Ausangate is an unforgettable five-day hike recommended for mountain lovers looking for an intense experience in remote areas and wild nature.
Included
- Professional bilingual tour guide.

What to bring and advices
- It is really important that you arrive to Cusco at least 2 days prior the trek, in order to acclimatize to the altitude. You can take personal medication which You can get at the drugstore there are many around the main street Av El Sol or near to the main square of Cusco.
- Please make sure to inform us about your health/food/physical restrictions in advance so we can prepare them for you.
- If you pay the remaining balance, it is advisable to bring some cash. You can get some money at the ATMs located in the center of Cusco City.
- Be always ready for rain and cold, take some rain poncho water proof clothes and warm clothes. Proper hiking boots.
- Insect repellent, some mosquitos are really annoyed specially at lower altitude.
- A light day pack with a change of clothes for the whole period of the trek – prepare for a vast range of changes in temperature.
- Rain gear (jacket and pants if available) or rain poncho. Plastic ponchos can be bought for about $1 in Cusco.
- Strong footwear, waterproof trekking boots recommended.
- Winter clothing including a jacket, fleece, gloves, scarf and hat. Thermal clothing is also recommended, especially for rest hours.
- Camera, films and batteries (batteries consume more quickly under cold conditions).
- Hat or cap to protect you from the sun, rain and cold.
- Sun block.
- After-sun cream or hydrating cream for face and body.
- It is suggested to use insect repellent with at least 20% DEET, although no risk of malaria has been reported so far.
- Snacks: biscuits, energy bars, chocolate, raw fruits, muesli, etc.
- Non-disposable canteen (Nalgene type) and water for the first morning.
- We recommend that you bring water purification tablets if you plan to collect water from rivers or streams.
- Your own medical kit with any special medications that you might require, paracetamol, second skin for blisters etc.
- Small towel or sarong.
- Bathers/swimsuit (if you intend on swimming in hot springs).
- Cash – sufficient for snacks, tips and souvenirs.
- Original passport & ISIC (International Student Identity Card) if you have one.
- Binoculars (if you have them).
